The power of Insight and the Subconscious

Coaching was embedded into the Essence of Humanity program to support each delegate’s journey of self-discovery and to turn some or all their insights gained during their immersion to sustainable actions and possibilities in their lives, both personally and professionally.

“Insight might be defined as the active principle of intelligence operating in any sphere of life.  It may involve some degree of recognition, but, it goes beyond the operation of the unknown.  Science itself has moved on to deeper levels of understanding by means of insight into its own specific fields. Art and religion have done likewise.  It is in the quality of insight that the infinite freedom and wholeness of learning finds its concrete manifestation.”

Some insights from a recent Essence of Humanity group, in addition to reflecting on the delegates insights from the program, we’ve taken a deeper look into how they have shown up in their lives as a result since then; their experiences have been touching! Their personalized journey, supported by coaching have included how:

  • To adapt my leadership style to the various persona’s in my team
  • Can I provide clarity for another’s journey, even when not knowing what the future of the business holds
  • Can I show up more assertive and influence people’s experience of me in this way
  • Do I create opportunities to add value to my team as their leader
  • Can I be the best version of my self
  • Do I show up as knowledgeable and make decisions with little / no expertise
  • Can I be influential and persuasive up and down line
  • Do I put into practice patience
  • Do I not come across as intimidated in difficult conversations

Interesting observation that even when they entered into one / two of their coaching sessions, weren’t too clear on what they would use them for and realized when given time, there is always something incomplete, taking up space, attention, power and freedom in their lives – both personally and professionally.

The work we do is about enhancing a human’s awareness – what they are and not aware of and how they can impact these to create a life in flow, of purpose, inspiration.  In a typical coaching cycle, when we take stock of what goals/achievements have been accomplished and to what percentage, I introduced my clients to what we refer to as ‘’integrity’’. In many ways, this to some means honorable, respectful etc., and in our Consciousness Coaching methodology, we define integrity as ‘’doing what you said you would do by when you said you would do it’’ – why you might ask?  It’s due to the fact that a person’s probability of achieving his / her goals is directly in proportion to their level of integrity, i.e. being in action 50 %, there is a 50% probability of one achieving their goals.

Did you know, that a human’s subconscious brain impacts their live by 90%, their conscious only 10%.  The subconscious brain operates 24×7 and at 400 billion bits per second – it never stops and tracks and records all done, not done, thoughts, words etc – often things we’re not aware of. Our conscious brain works at 2000 bits per second and like a computer, needs to be logged into to function. We need to be aware of this and do what we can to ensure that as much as our conscious brain is strengthened, so too is our subconscious – one that is often overlooked, understood and unrecognized, yet we can’t understand why things happen the way they do!  The benefits of integrity are aware some: increased self-confidence, less feeling guilty/ doubtful of oneself, more power/control over one’s life!

Why wouldn’t you want this?

The actual neural impulses in your conscious brain travel between 120 and 140 miles per hour, while unconscious impulses travel at nearly 800 times that speed.  This allows the unconscious brain to process information at 400 billion bits per second, compared to the measly 2000 bits per second of our conscious brain.  Therefore, to fulfill your resolutions and truly change the underlying beliefs that control your everyday actions, you need to be able to access and influence the incredible power of your subconscious.

I close with some inspirational words by Don Miguel Ruiz from “The four agreements”:

“You can measure the impeccability of your word by your level of self-love.  How much you love yourself and how you feel about yourself and how you feel about yourself are directly proportionate to the quality and integrity of your word.  When you are impeccable with your word, you feel good; you feel happy and at peace.  You can transcend the dream of hell just by making the agreement to be impeccable with your word.  Right now, I am planting that seed in your mind. Whether or not the seed grows, depends upon how fertile our mind is for the seeds of love.  It is up to you to make this agreement to yourself: I am impeccable with my word.  Nurture this seed, and as it grows in your mind, it will generate more seeds of love to replace the seeds of fear.  This first agreement will change the kind of seeds your mind is fertile for”.
